Our History
1950—Trinidad and Tobago is the conduit for some of London’s most trustworthy insurance firms. Locals could open policies with firms to protect their houses and businesses from fire and perils, ensure that their families were taken care after they passed, or ensure that their goods were secured in case of some tragic accident … all facilitated and underwritten by an indigenous firm being Agostini Brothers Insurance.
The 1960s—With the excitement brought by T&T’s independence from Britain, an idea sparked in the local insurance industry. Firms realized that there was a niche market to whom they could continue to provide the services of local and international insurance firms to a wider range of clients than they could reach themselves. AIB’s was part of that tide.
1972—AIB’s has always been headquartered in POS, the nation’s capital. But as San Fernando burst into a major city, our clients in the south region required personal attention. As is our motto, “When it comes to our client, everything matters.” AIB’s positioned itself to the southland with an office of 15 staff members, now permanently situated at 1 Freeling Street San Fernando.
1976—The company started beefing up its technology, acquiring the then top-of-the-line NCR 299 electronic accounting computer. Not quite Star Trek, but pretty close where the local industry was concerned!
1977—Locally, the government changed with policies regarding the ability of local firms to offer policies on behalf of multinational insurance players. AIB gave up its binders for Eagle Star and General accident insurance as a result.
1980—The sod was turned at the location of AIB’s current head office building at #119 Henry Street, Port of Spain.
1981—A small change, but a significant one: the name of the company was changed from Agostini Brothers Insurance. Agostini Insurance Brokers Limited was incorporated in 1981, an independent Insurance Brokerage Office.
1992—Agostini Insurance Brokers Limited went regional when the offices of Agostini Insurance Brokers (St. Lucia) Limited were incorporated in Castries, to provide the same reliable and prompt service as is practiced in T&T.
1994— Our portfolio in the sister isle Tobago grew to include its own branch of AIB at Scarborough in 1994. The office is now located at Lowlands to serve the entire island.
1998— AIB implements a proprietary Broking Software Platform called CD Global. The software has been upgraded several times over the last two decades to EGlobal.
2005— Grenada was also part of AIB’s period of regional expansion; thanks to a partnership with a well-respected local conglomerate George F. Huggins and Co. (Grenada) Limited, AIB became part of Grenada’s insurance landscape.
2009— AIB forms a wholly owned subsidiary Cardea Health Solutions Limited to provide the highest quality health claims management services and administration of self-funded plans.
